Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how DMCA Detector (“we”, “us”, “the Service”) handles information when you use the website and related Netlify-hosted API endpoints. The Service helps you look up Google Search copyright-removal (DMCA) request metadata for domains you submit.
1. Who we are
DMCA Detector is operated by the publisher of this website (“the operator”). The Service is provided for informational domain-monitoring use as described in these pages.
2. What this Service does
When you check domains, your browser sends those domain names to our serverless function. The function queries publicly available Google Transparency Report APIs and, when you enable optional enrichment, the Lumen Database API (including with a Lumen API token you supply). Results are returned to your browser for display and optional export.
3. Information we process
3.1 Information you provide
- Domain names you paste, upload, or ask the Service to check.
- Optional preferences such as whether to include Lumen enrichment or related domains.
- Optional Lumen API token you paste when enabling filtered URLs & jurisdiction. The token is transmitted to our serverless function solely to fulfill that check against Lumen, and is not permanently stored as an account credential.
- Google account sign-in (optional): if you sign in, we receive a Netlify Identity profile derived from Google (typically email, name, avatar URL, and a stable user id) so we can authenticate you and associate saved domains with your account. We store that profile in our Postgres database (e.g. Neon) along with first/last seen timestamps.
- Account details you provide after sign-in: industry, collected after you have seen your first full result. This answer is write-once and cannot be edited later. We do not collect role, organisation name, organisation type, or company size.
- Sign-in telemetry (signed-in only): approximate IP address, browser user-agent, locale, and timezone captured when your profile syncs, used for abuse prevention, security, and understanding how the Service is used.
- Watched domains and check snapshots (signed-in only): domains you save to the dashboard, plus request-id snapshots used to show “new since last check.”
3.2 Information stored on your device
- Preference storage (only if you opt in): saved domain list, checkbox preferences, and previously seen request IDs used to highlight new notices, stored in local storage on this device. Details are in the Cookie Policy.
- Consent cookie: records whether you accepted or declined preference storage.
- Lumen API token (optional): if you enable filtered Lumen details, your token is kept in page memory for the current tab only and sent in the check request body. It is not written to cookies, local storage, or session storage.
3.3 Information processed by hosting infrastructure
The website and API are hosted on Netlify. Like most web hosts, Netlify may process technical request data (for example IP address, user agent, timestamps, and URLs) in server logs and platform telemetry for security, reliability, and abuse prevention. Request bodies that include a Lumen token may transit that infrastructure. When you sign in, Netlify Identity manages authentication cookies/session tokens. Account profiles (email, name, optional industry field, and sign-in telemetry), watched domains, check snapshots, and rate-limit counters may be stored in a Postgres database (for example Neon) associated with your account or (for guests) an IP-based abuse-prevention key. 3.4 Third-party data sources
- Google Transparency Report — queried for copyright-removal request metadata related to the domains you submit.
- Lumen Database — optionally queried for notice details such as URLs and jurisdiction. When you supply a Lumen API token, Lumen processes API authentication and notice lookups under Lumen’s terms and policies.
Those providers process the domain / notice identifiers (and, where applicable, API credentials) needed to fulfill your request under their own terms and policies.
4. Purpose and legal bases
We process information to:
- Provide the domain-check functionality you request;
- Perform optional Lumen enrichment you explicitly enable with your own API token;
- Remember your domains and options when you consent to preference storage;
- Authenticate signed-in users and store watched domains / check snapshots for the dashboard;
- Store the industry detail you provide for product insight and support;
- Record limited sign-in telemetry (IP, user-agent, locale, timezone) for security and usage analysis;
- Enforce fair-use domain and rate limits (including IP- or user-based counters) to prevent abuse;
- Operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Service;
- Comply with legal obligations where applicable.
Where GDPR or similar laws apply, the bases are typically performance of a contract / requested service for checks you initiate, consent for preference local storage, legitimate interests in running a secure hosted service and preventing abuse, and contract / legitimate interests for optional Google sign-in and account features.
5. What we do not do
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not use advertising trackers or third-party marketing pixels on this site.
- We do not intentionally collect special-category data.
- We do not permanently store your Lumen API token in a Service database.
6. Retention
- Domain lists and checker preferences in local storage: until cleared or you withdraw consent.
- Seen-request IDs in local storage: until cleared or consent is withdrawn.
- Lumen API token in page memory: until the page is reloaded, the tab closes, you remove it, or you withdraw preference consent (which also clears it).
- Account identity session: managed by Netlify Identity until you sign out or the session expires.
- Account profile (Google-derived fields, industry, sign-in telemetry): retained while your account remains, or until you request deletion.
- Watched domains and check snapshots: retained while your account remains and the domains stay saved (or until you remove them / request deletion).
- Rate-limit counters: short-lived hourly windows used for abuse prevention.
- Server logs retained by Netlify according to Netlify’s practices.
- Guest check requests are processed to return results; we do not keep guest domain lists as a long-term account profile.
7. International transfers
Hosting and upstream APIs may process data in the United States or other countries. If you access the Service from the EEA/UK/Switzerland, this may involve transfers outside your region, subject to the safeguards used by those providers.
8. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Because preference data lives primarily in your browser, you can usually exercise control by:
- Using Cookie settings on the site (footer) and choosing “Essential only”;
- Clearing saved domains in the checker;
- Clearing site cookies and local storage in your browser.
For other privacy requests that cannot be handled in your browser, contact the site operator through any contact channel they publish with this deployment (if provided). You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
9. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 16. Do not use it if you are under the age required by law in your jurisdiction to consent to online services.
10. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy where permitted by law.
